The Pond Campsite is Shanti’s largest campsite with a two to six person capacity in two man tents, or a four person capacity in one large tent. You will have a picnic table, two Adirondack chairs and a side table for your exclusive use. Water is available but it's convenient to bring some for your first night. Shanti’s 100-foot long rain-fed pond is swimmable in the spring and early summer. It can dry up in the late summer, depending upon California’s drought and global warming. The Pond campsite is within the free range area of Shanti’s peaceful sheep and guardian llama named Cosmo, so please make sure your dogs stay on a leash or are always willing to come when called. All guests are welcome to the communal campfire, shower in a tree, and compost toilet near the yurt!
$75 - $100 per night
The Cosmo Campsite is Shanti’s second largest campsite, with a capacity for two two-man tents or one larger tent. It is nestled within towering Redwoods and overlooks the bucolic Coleman Valley. This is the best campsite for watching sunsets. There is access to a communal compost toilet and outdoor shower either uphill near the yurt or downhill by the main house. You will have your own double person hammock with a view upwards through Redwood boughs. Shanti also supplies a redwood picnic table for outdoor eating under the sky. The campsite is easily accessible for loading and unloading within a 50 foot walk from Shanti’s gravel road. Feel free to join the communal campfire near the yurt, which closes down by 10 PM.
$50 - $65 per night
Millie Campsite is probably the most private campsite at Shanti. It is nestled in Elizabeth’s favorite Redwood grove on the edge of her property. Millie is the name of a most delightful sheep who was exceptionally exuberant about life as a lamb. Millie campsite is smaller than Cosmo or Pond Campsites and has a capacity of one or two people in a two man tent. There is access to a communal compost toilet and outdoor shower either uphill near the yurt or downhill by the main house. You will have your own double person hammock with a view upwards through Redwood boughs. Shanti also supplies a redwood picnic table for outdoor eating under the sky. The campsite is a bit further for loading and unloading with a 150 foot walk from Shanti’s gravel road. Feel free to join the communal campfire near the yurt, which closes down by 10 PM.
$45 - $55 per night
The Peanut campsite is named after Elizabeth's ewe lamb Peanut whom she bottle fed since its mother rejected it for the very large, healthy ram brother. It is also aptly named because it is the smallest of Shanti's campsites. Please know that the view from this Redwood encircled campsite is also of the parking area below.
You'll also have the best views of the animals as they graze, and they might even walk through your campsite in the early morning hours! You can always help us feed them in the morning and the afternoon. The compost toilet and outdoor shower near the yurt may be utilized by Shanti Peanut Campsite guests. Don't forget your flashlight! The campfire is also communal and all campers may come and enjoy it until lights out at 10 PM, unless you and the yurt guests mutually decide otherwise. Please fell free to introduce yourselves to everyone -- Shanti often hosts a fascinating international crowd. Also we recommend all guests unload and then park below in the horse arena parallel to the big white RV. Looking forward to having you at the farm!
Behind the Barn Campsites
5 sites: bring your own tent
$45 - $55 per night
The Behind-the-Barn Campsite has five picnic tables with umbrellas, a communal campfire ring and a beautiful private site surrounded by trees. You will enjoy an outdoor hot shower, something everyone should experience! There's even an outdoor sink for cleaning dishes and teeth. The second story of the compost toilet has a marvelous view!
The Behind-the-Barn Campsite affords easy access from your vehicle to a flat unloading area near the Yellow site (named for its umbrella). The next four sites are Brown, Red, Green and Tan. All sites are a minimum of 20 feet by 30 feet in size. They all share the communal campfire which has hay bales to sit on (complete with soft things on top of them). Unload your gear and use the Gorilla cart to effortlessly roll your belongings over to your campsite.
And don't worry! The barn doesn't stink because it's used just for Elizabeth's storage, not for animals.
Just above the Behind-the-Barn campsite is Shanti’s “Slanty Cabin.” So named for the down slanting floor. It's designed to be a funky, affordable, indoor space to stay for kids or adults. This simple, 400 square - foot apartment has a queen bed in the master bedroom as well as two single beds in the living/dining/kitchen area. Currently, we are also installing a stove, sink and counter tops for a kitchenette.
The five Behind-the-Barn campsites and the Slanty Cabin are ideal for one or more families or larger groups that already know each other and want to have a more private camping experience. If you have any worries about your group camping near others due to COVID, this is your solution! The Behind-the-Barn Campsite can also be rented for five individual groups or any other combination of groups. Please follow the rule of quiet time after 10 PM to allow future campers to stay here. Come and reconnect with the galaxy of stars overhead.
